MAKING A GIFT THROUGH YOUR WILL

"Be kind to those who love you, and leave them a will. It makes things so much easier after you are gone." – barbara findlay, Lawyer and Mediator

Making a gift through your will is a meaningful way to make a lasting commitment to Out On Screen and the queer community. You can leave us a sum of money, real estate, an item of personal property, or any portion of your estate. But first, you need a will! Without a will, your wishes for distribution of your assets may not come true.

Our legal name is "Vancouver Out On Screen Film and Video Society" and our charitable registration number is 890743792 RR0001.

When naming Out On Screen in your legal will, consider these gift options:

Residual Bequest

In this case, The Vancouver Out On Screen Film and Video Society is given all or a percentage of what remains of your estate after paying debts, taxes, expenses, and other bequests. This option protects the value of your estate for all beneficiaries. An example of the wording would be: "I give to The Vancouver Out On Screen Film and Video Society all (or stated percentage) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate...".

Specific Bequest

This can mean either a specific sum of money or a particular property such as real estate, stocks, bonds or other items. If you choose to give a specific sum of money or asset an example of the wording would be: "I give to The Vancouver Out On Screen Film and Video Society the sum of (amount/asset)... Unless the property is useful to The Vancouver Out On Screen Film and Video Society it will be sold and the proceeds will go to The Vancouver Out On Screen Film and Video Society less any appraisals and selling costs applied as per the terms of the bequest."

Contingent Bequest

This gift takes place only if you are not survived by certain individuals. An example of the wording would be: "If (name/s of primary beneficiary/ies) do(es) not survive me, or shall die within ninety (90) days from the date of my death, or shall die as a result of a common disaster, then I give to The Vancouver Out On Screen Film and Video Society (describe the amount of cash, property or percentage of residual estate)..."

We would be very happy to discuss these options with you. We also recommend that you speak with your financial and legal advisors when making a bequest. To discuss your legacy please contact Drew Dennis at drew@outonscreen.com

“Indulgences are a thing of the past so buying our way into heaven is no longer an option. The next best thing? Leaving it to Out On Screen so they can continue their great work with the Queer Film Festival, Out in Schools and the Queer History Project.” – David Hannigan and Mark Robins
