COMMUNITY PROGRAMMERS

We are looking for queers with fresh ideas that will promote discussion and provide a forum for the unique perspectives in our community. Ideas can be diverse and creative. We’re looking to you to enrich the content and breadth of our programs. Individuals and groups of diverse cultural and experiential backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. Both first-time and experienced programmer/curators are welcome.

2009 Program:

  • Indigequeer. Kevin Lee Burton's showcase of films by queer indigenous filmmakers pushes the boundaries of representation, gaining a more accurate presence for our communities in TV, film and society at large.

2008 Programs included:

  • Kinderkino: For Kids was a wild collection of short films for kids 5 and up. Curated by Wendy and Uriel Oberlander, this free program was followed by Disco Baby!, a disco dance party for kids.
  • How Do you Say "Queer" in French, programmed by Amy-Lynn Kazymerchyk, offered a glimpse into the complexity and multiplicity of "queer" within a geopolitical culture known as French Canada.
  • For Dreams and Memories: Super 8 Visions. Sarah Muff and Julie Saragosa selected an eclectice mix of Super 8 films. Psychic conversations with an inanimate object, strange creatures, aliens, police states, and a nightmare that finally ends.
  • Archival Classic! A Lecture with Susan Stryker was an opportunity for a walkthough of a fascinating peice of queer media history with renowned filmmaker and Trans Studies scholar Susan Stryker.
