Awards

At the Vancouver Queer Film Festival we recognize outstanding work. In 2008, we featured the following awards:

  • People's Choice Award for Best Feature
  • People’s Choice Award for Best Short
  • Gerry Brunet Award for Best BC Short (Juried)
  • 20th Anniversary Award (Juried), given to an artist who has made a significant contribution to the Vancouver queer media arts community

 

Workshops & Masterclasses

We offer a range of learning opportunities at the Festival. Some past events have included:

  • Masterclass 2008: “Documenting Oral Histories and Living Memory”with Aerlyn Weissman (Forbidden Love, Little Sister’s vs. Big Brother
  • Masterclass 2007: “Creating a Script Through Improv” with John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Shortbus
  • Masterclass 2006: “Editing in Documentary” with Arthur Dong (Forbidden City, USA, Licenced to Kill)
  • The CityTV Cinecity Script Read + Competition 2005 & 2006

 

Hospitality

Situated in one of the most spectacular cities in the world, the Vancouver Queer Film Festival wants you to experience as much of it as possible while you’re here. Our visiting artists have been treated to gift baskets of locally produced goodies, bike rides around Stanley Park’s scenic Seawall and kayaking trips in beautiful Deep Cove.

Parties & Networking

There’s always a chance to meet and mingle! We offer a wide range of parties and events to showcase artists at the Festival. From raucous performances at our Gala events to intimate mixers and Q&As, we provide ample opportunity to meet, greet and have fun.
